PhD in Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Mental Health from UFRJ. Post-doctorate in the area of ​​psychiatric epidemiology at Columbia University, New York. Full professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at UFRJ. Director of the Institute of Psychiatry at UFRJ from 2010-2018. He has experience in the area of ​​Medicine, with an emphasis on Psychiatry, working mainly on the following topics: mental health, mental illness, psychosis and deinstitutionalization.

Since 2015, he has coordinated the mental health medicine internship at UFRJ, where, together with colleagues, he has been building an innovative proposal for integration between the Mental Health Internship and the Family and Community Medicine Internship, focusing on the training of general practitioners in mental health from primary health care.

Due to the need for specialized training for the management of the UFRJ Institute of Psychiatry (direction), he completed a specialization course in public controllership and management at FACC UFRJ in 2012. He also completed a specialization course in Family Medicine in the Community in 2022.

From 1989 to 2007 he was Director of the Rio de Janeiro Psychiatric Center.

Since 2008, he has coordinated the Family Therapy Sector at the UFRJ Institute of Psychiatry and since 2011, he has coordinated the Entrelaços Program.
